Mayor Bass Issues Statement Regarding Passage of City Budget
LOS ANGELES – Mayor Karen Bass today issued the following statement after the Los Angeles City Council passed the City budget:
“I applaud the City Council’s support for my plans to hire more LAPD officers, continue moving people inside from encampments, and fix more streets,” said Mayor Karen Bass. “When I took office, the LAPD was shrinking, homelessness had been rising for years, and L.A. was the only major American city without a comprehensive infrastructure plan. Under my administration, homelessness is down for two years in a row for the first time in our city’s history, violent and property crime are down, and we have created our city’s first comprehensive infrastructure plan, all while delivering fiscally responsible budgets. I want to especially thank the Council President and Councilmember Yaroslavsky for their leadership and for joining me in continuing to move Los Angeles forward.”

We started two weeks ago sending letters to our council members informing them of our concerns regarding implementation of SB 79, specifically the reduction of rear and side setbacks and the need for "by mail" notification. The Planning Department has sent their draft ordinance to the Planning Commission; they will take public comment and vote on the draft. The draft will then be sent to the PLUM Committee of the City Council and then to the City Council and the Mayor for final approval. We need to send letters every step of the way.
