Filming in the Foothills May is Celebrate Filming Month

The Sunland-Tujunga community is taking the month of May to celebrate “FILMING IN THE FOOTHILLS”. With the new California State tax incentives kicking-off we would love to encourage filmmakers to give Sunland-Tujunga a chance to be their prime location. With an exhaustive resume of Hollywood films using our community as a backdrop, we strive to host another TV series like Sons of Anarchy that used our unique neighborhood for it’s rugged environment and classic feel.
As the Chair of the Sunland-Tujunga Neighborhood Council, Arts, Culture and Recreation Committee and the very first Entertainment Industry Representative elected to a Los Angeles Neighborhood Council, I have been delighted with the work and presence of Film LA in our community. Please join FILM LA for a presentation to our community at the May 13, 2015 Sunland-Tujunga Neighborhood Council Meeting starting at 6:30 pm at North Valley City Hall. The meeting will be professionally captured for future viewing and sharing if you are unable to join us.
To add to our community film friendly theme, the Little Landers Historical Society will open an exhibit on May 1st titled “OUR HILLS AND HOLLYWOOD” at the historical Bolton Hall. The show will display information and artifacts related to the history of filming in our unique community.
The May 9th program will be titled “OUR HILLS AND HOLLYWOOD” and look at feature film productions from the 1920’s to recent times that have used our community as their film sets. The program presenter will be Tujunga resident Craig Durst who currently works in the TV industry. Craig’s skills as a master photographer have also helped preserve our history by producing a “then and now” series of photographs using historical location photos and duplicating the photos in modern times.
Local filmmaker Mike Timm will debut a trailer for his feature film titled "A Karma Thing" shot entirely in Tujunga.
Both the exhibit and program will be free of charge and are open to the public.
Later that evening will be the Johny Carpenter Film Festival at Verdugo Hills High School. Reception begins at 5:30 with screenings of student films and Johny Carpenter classics beginning at 7pm.
