Los Angeles is expecting the current extreme heat wave to continue this week. The City of Los Angeles has air-conditioned cooling centers at designated Recreation and Parks facilities open this Labor Day holiday through Wednesday from 10am-9pm. Please note that due to the holiday City Library cooling centers are closed Monday September 5th, but will reopen Tuesday. The California High-Speed Rail Authority (Authority) announces the availability of the Palmdale to Burbank Project Section Draft Environmental Impact Report / Environmental Impact Statement (EIR/EIS). The Draft EIR/EIS has been prepared and is being made available pursuant to both the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).
The Palmdale to Burbank Project Section Draft EIR/EIS and associated documents will be available to the public on September 02, 2022.

The environmental review, consultation, and other actions required by applicable federal environmental laws for this project are being or have been carried out by the State of California pursuant to 23 U.S. Code 327 and a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) dated July 23, 2019, and executed by the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) and the State of California. Under that MOU, the Authority is the project’s lead agency under NEPA. Prior to the July 23, 2019 MOU, the FRA was the federal lead agency. The Authority is also the lead agency under CEQA.Read More
Over the weekend of August 27th, community volunteers watered 149 trees along Foothill Boulevard from the 210 off ramp by Ralphs to Mt. Gleason Ave. Organizing this event was Pat Kramer, STNC’s Safe Traffic & Transportation Committee chairperson, and Stephanie Mines, board member of the Sunland-Tujunga Chamber of Commerce. Pat also brought in members of the Crescenta Valley Group of the Sierra Club. All told, about 25 volunteers, from the age of 14 to the age of 83, watered every single tree on both sides of Foothill Boulevard in Sunland.Read More
LOS ANGELES-- The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (Public Health) has confirmed the first cases of human West Nile virus (WNV) infection in Los Angeles County for the 2022 season (excluding Long Beach and Pasadena as cases identified in those cities are reported by their local health departments). A total of six cases have been identified, most of whom were hospitalized for their illness in late July and early August. The cases reside in the Antelope Valley, San Fernando Valley, and San Gabriel Valley and all are recovering.Read More

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program educates volunteers about disaster preparedness for the hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. CERT offers a consistent, nationwide approach to volunteer training and organization that professional responders can rely on during disaster situations, allowing them to focus on more complex tasks.
CERT TRAINING starts Sept. 1, 2022 - 6-8:30 PM and ends Oct. 13, 2022, 6-8:30 PM
Will be held at Heart of the Canyon Church, 8666 Foothill Place, Lake View Terrace -- just past the Angeles National Golf Club.
