I look forward to continuing to serve the community. Communication between stakeholders and the neighborhood council is important to me and I take the task very seriously. Neighbors should be informed and offered the ability to weigh in on all issues as they choose. The STNC uses several methods to do this. Better communication means better participation and the STNC has one of the largest attendance at meetings. I also look forward to continuing my ability to stay involved with other neighborhood council leaders throughout the City. I will work with the president and outreach committees. STNC will continue to be one of the most effective NC's in Los Angeles. |

Bill Manning
My name is Bill Manning. I live in Sunland and currently serve as Region 1 Representative and also I am the STNC's Design Advisory Committee Transportation Team Leader. My greatest interest is road conditions and the facilitation and flow of traffic through our community. Two important items to me are the elimination of graffiti and illegal dumping of trash in our town and along our roads. We have a wonderful hillside community; it will remain so, and improve, if we all work together. I will appreciate and honor your vote to keep me in my present position and will work diligently to accomplish your best wishes for our community. |

Sunland-Tujunga is an incredible community and I’m so proud to be here. We’ve united in standing up to one of the biggest corporations in the world. We’re going to save the Verdugo Hills Golf Course and we’ll fight to the end for responsible development.
As founder of Commerce’s COBRA, co-founder of the No2HomeDepot Campaign, previous STNC board member for 3 years and current DAC board member for 4 years, I know how hard it is to keep up with everything. My goals are to make it easy and simple for you to be heard, informed and involved. |

James Speas
My inspiration to join the Sunland-Tujunga Neighborhood Council came from my realization that I really like living here and want to see our community become an even better place to live. I see alot of potential in our area to enhance our quality of life in our neighborhoods, schools and business oportunities. I see our government as an asset to help our community. The STNC is the voice that can be heard at the city, state and national government levels to tap into that asset. I just want to be a part of that voice and help.

Given the recent threats to alter our community, I think it is more important than ever for Sunland-Tujunga residents to be informed and involved. I would like to contribute to that process by serving on the Sunland-Tujunga Neighborhood Council. As a resident of Tujunga for 20 years, I have a vested interest in both improving our community for all current stakeholders and empowering it for generations to come. |

I would like to introduce myself to the Sunland-Tujunga community. I am a candidate for the Neighborhood Council Board, Region 4 representative. It is my belief that I could enhance the overall operation of the STNC board and further improve our beautiful community. I plan to continue outreach efforts by further engaging and listening to all voices in the community regarding STNC decisions on Home Depot, mansionization, Verdugo Hills Golf Course, education and public safety. I look forward to serving our Sunland-Tujunga community for you. |

Leona Swan
I am Leona Swan, STNC Region Four candidate. I have resided in Sunland since late 1998. I really love our ‘little’ towns and want to see them flourish peacefully. A Native Texan, I relocated with my son to San Diego in 1983, moved to Los Angeles in 1994, and settled here, as mentioned, in 1998. Being on the Sunland-Tujunga Neighborhood Council as Region Four Representative will afford many opportunities; primarily to take an active role in getting what we the residents want as ‘flourishing’ while actively opposing the undesirable elements that can and have been forced upon us. Region Four is an active area with the Kmart site on Foothill and the Verdugo Hills Golf course on La Tuna Canyon at Tujunga Canyon. I am ready to work closely with another Region Four Representative and the whole of the Neighborhood Council to make Sunland-Tujunga the place we really love to call home.

Belinda J. Woodruff
I have lived in Sunland/Tujunga for 35 where I raised a family and worked for many years at the local Bob’s Big Boy (now Coco’s Restaurant in Sunland), worked for the Census Bureau during Census 2000 where I tested job applicants in the Sunland/Tujunga area and then supervised a wonderful crew of 21 Tujunga resident Census takers; and more recently worked at the circulation desk of the Tujunga Library. My service experience in Sunland/Tujunga includes being a Cub Scout den mother for 2 years and am currently a Neighborhood Watch Captain as well as one of the representatives of the Tujunga Community on the Community Police Advisory Board. My sons are products of the LAUSD school system and both attended school at Sunland Elementary, Mnt. Gleason Middle School and graduated from Verdugo High School so I know some of the challenges that families in the S/T community face and want to help find solutions. I strongly believe in neighbors helping neighbors. A community united toward a common good can accomplish great things. |

Rafael Gonzalez
As a Sunland homeowner, I would be honored to serve as a group representative on the Sunland-Tujunga Neighborhood Council. I believe very strongly that community leaders, along with family and friends can play a major role in shaping our community. Therefore, it will be my duty to effectively and efficiently provide our community with the education necessary to make good sound decisions that will strengthen our community. Hopefully my administrative healthcare background including Alcohol and Drug counseling will gain your confidence. |

Education: Lydia Grant
Having volunteered at our local schools for the past seven years, I have had the opportunity to better understand
the needs of our local students and schools. Teachers, parents, students, the school district, and community need to work
together as a team to create schools in our neighborhood that we can all be proud of. Safety and academic
achievement are my top priorities. We need to unite and show everyone that Sunland-Tujunga expects more for our
children. Remember to vote for education.

Environmental: Ricky Grubb
I am running for the board position of "Environmental Representative". I have been tirelessly advocating for the environment in Sunland-Tujunga since I moved here almost 10 years ago. I will use my position on the board of the Sunland-Tujunga Neighborhood Council for the protection of the our beleagered native plants and animals with city departments on development projects with whatever it takes. I am a member of the Sierra Club. |
| |
|
Historical: John Blue
I am running for the ST NC position of "Area Historian." In conjunction with Bolton Hall, and other Valley historical associations, I intend to research, identify, collate, bring forward, and illuminate unique historical aspects of our neighborhood. This will include people, places, events, markers, and philosophies. The more we discover and bring forward the many unusual historical and intellectual aspects of this area, the more we can preserve our neighborhood as special in the evolution of California, and give ourselves a unique and singular branding. This will help defend our way of life as it comes under pressure from developers. |

|
Service Clubs : Richard Stewart
After working two years as the Interfaith Rep for Sunland-Tujunga I
realized I want to do more to help the community. The churches truly
are the backbone of the community... but there is another: the
Service Clubs.
By their very name they are servicing the Community. The Lions, the Elks, the Optimist, the Rotary, The Boosters and the Chamber! (And I'm sure there are more). They are working to better the quality of life of Sunland-Tujunga and I would be proud to be their representative. They deserve to be helped, they have all earned our support. |

Youth:
Elizabeth Jahelka
My name is Elizabeth Jahelka and I'm getting ready to graduate my senior year at Verdugo Hills High School. I'm proud to say I've made the Dean's List every year since I began. I played on Verdugo's Girls Volleball team since my sophomore year and received the Scholar Athlete Award for those years as well. I was also actively involved in managing the Boy's Volleyball team during their season. I love traveling and recently got to enjoy exploring Washington, D.C. with the week long trip the schools close up students. I plan to begin my college career this fall at Cal State University, Northridge. |

Education:
Mose Mose, Jr.
My name is Mose Mose, Jr. I am a stakeholder in Sunland-Tujunga. As a member of the community, I am seeking your vote as a representative to the Sunland-Tujunga Neighborhood Council. I would like to serve the best interests of our community for education. The schools in Sunland-Tujunga deserve our best efforts to provide the best teachers, the best programs, the best curriculums, and the best learning environments. Our children need safe schools that produce the best educational stimuli that prepare them for the job market and for becoming civic leaders for our community. |
| |
|
Scouting: Marti Marshall
I'm Marti Marshall and I am running as Scouting Representative to help pull the Boy and Girl Scouts together with their community. I was a Girl Scout leader for 7 years and was with the Cub Scouts for 5 years and am now in Boy Scouts as Fundraising Chair. I would like to coordinate with all the scouting groups in the area, or scouts who live in the area but have a Troop outside the area, and give them the opportunity to attend a Neighborhood Council meeting with their Troop/Pack and earn some community service by performing the Flag Salute. |
| |
|
Business : Tomi Lyn Bowling
I am a resident and business owner in Sunland-Tujunga. I would like to be the Business Representative for the STNC and feel I would do a good job. My experience with the STNC (nine years) both as a stakeholder, member, director and standing committee member of the DAC (seven years) gives me much working knowledge to bring to the organization. I believe that everyone can make a difference in their community and I hope to offer our business owners a voice in what occurs here in Sunland-Tujunga. I look forward to working with our business community.
